Zelenograd Archaeological Union celebrated its 30 th birthday. The Union specializations are study of stone age monuments and digging of old Slavic settlements in Moscow and Moscow region, Kaliningrad and Western Belarus. Nowadays the Union is working mainly in 2 fields: metal search and search for late middle age villages and settlements that disappeared after Polish-Lithuanian intervention (early 17 th century)

The Union was created under supervision of the chief archaeologist of Moscow Alexander Veksler. In 1978 a circle “Young Archaeologist” appeared in Zelenograd, later this circle turned into an archaeological Union. Both children and adults who were interested in this land history were participating in the Union work.

Since 1984 the Union became an independent subdivision of the Institute of Archaeology of the USSR Academy of Sciences. Every year due to the permission the Union was carrying out exploring and digging in districts of Moscow region, Zelenograd and Solnechnogorsk.

Since 1992 the studies are held in the museum of local history and lore in Zelenograd. The found exhibits served as a base for exhibitions in schools and enterprises of this city as well as for creation of local history and lore department in the museum. From that time Alexander Niklyudov has been at the head of the department, he was also a permanent head of the union, head of archaeology and local history and lore department, museum research specialist and author of 200 popular scientific articles on archaeology, local history and lore, numismatics and faleristics in academic editions and more than 100 articles in Moscow and Solnechnogorsk press .

Since the union foundation 20 unknown stone age settlements, 9 ancient Russian settlements and 6 groups of ancient Russian burial grounds were found in Zelenograd neighborhood.

In late 90s in the north-western part of Moscow region with the union help there was found an ancient settlement, later named Lyalovo-3. The research showed that this place was inhabited in late paleolith about 13 th. years ago. About 25 th. items including weapons, household things , instruments of labour were found here. It was in this place where was discovered a ritual complex and other interesting objects, one of them was a godling whom worshipped settlement women (now it is a museum exhibit)

Presently there are about 15 people attending the circle, among them participants from Solnechnogorsk and Skhodnya.

Archaeological union invites pupils and students to join in, the studies are free of charge.

In late May in Zelenograd museum of local history and lore there will be opened an exhibition dedicated to the 30 th Anniversary of Archaeological Union. Everybody is welcomed.
