2008 year    September

This event was planned to be the first in the wave of festive events, dedicated to the Day of the City. The citizens of Zelenograd - long-service employees of the municipal enterprises and services, put this initiative forward.

This initiative was supported by the city authorities. Soon it was decided to install a Memorial Sign in the year of the city's 50 th anniversary, on the Day of the City of Moscow .

Vladimir Kozlov, Zelenograd sculpture, brought this idea to life. In the early 2008 when the project was prepared, Memorial Sign model was installed in Square of Yunost for Zelenograd citizens to discuss. The author took into account all the comments made and in May this year presented an improved project for the Artsistic Committee to judge. The Committee approved of it.

The grand opening ceremony was attended by the first builders of Zelenograd, people who substantially contributed into the development of microelectronics, veterans of the Great Patriotic War, veterans of labour in various spheres, municipal services and the representatives of Zelenograd branch of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Moscow. The right to unveil the Memorial Sign was given to Zelenograd Prefect A. N. Smirnov, associate director of “Zelenogradstroy” O. Panin, director of PMT “Zelenogradprojekt” A. Manko. Many people came to congratulate citizens and the first builders of the city. Among them were ex-Prefect of Zelenograd Alexey Ishchuk, sculptur Vladimir Kozlov, an author of the Sign, contractor and customer representatives “Zelenogradstroy” and “Zelenogradprojekt”.

The composition of the Sign is very unusual: the core of it is a bronze bas-relief, reflecting the stages of construction and development of Zelenograd, dating from the very document of the city's construction up to its 50 th anniversary. The bas-relief represents a particular framing of three square-section columns that symbolize the place where half a century ago the construction of Zelenograd started. Our city's municipal arms crown the columns. The bas-relief reads:

“To builders. Architects. Scientists – the first who came here”
